IOT ENABLE SMART SOLAR TREE

The use of solar Photovoltaic (PV) technology is increasing rapidly owing to the huge demand for energy especially in the urban areas. Solar PV installations require approximately 8-10 m2 of land per kW of installation. In order to meet the energy demands of the urban dwellings, there is a dire need for a solution with high energy density. In addition, with the large scale grid integration of renewable energy source , grid stability has become an issue. Hence, it is desirable to achieve a relatively uniform energy generation from solar PV installations throughout the year. Also, due to the large transmission losses and curtailment, there is a need to move toward decentralized energy generation.

A 3 kW IoT enabled smart solar tree is developed & demonstrated. Optimized solar panel placement is achieved to minimize shading losses to less than 5% and provide a levelized energy generation throughout the year.The complete system is enabled with an IoT sensor platformfor performance and environmental parameter monitoring.

IOT ENABLE SMART SOLAR TREE:

SOLAR GRID TIED/STAND-ALONE HYBRID INVERTER

A solar grid-tied/stand-alone hybrid inverter is a type of inverter used in solar power systems that combines the features of both grid-tied and off-grid (stand-alone) systems. 

Key Functions:

1. Grid-Tied Mode:

o When the utility grid is available, it synchronizes with the grid and supplies solar
power to the home.
o Excess power can be exported to the grid (net metering).
o If solar is insufficient, it draws power from the grid.

2. Stand-Alone (Off-Grid) Mode:

o If the grid goes down, it switches to battery backup.
o It supplies power from the batteries and/or solar panels to critical loads.
o It works independently of the grid during outages.

Hybrid Features:

 Battery Integration: Supports charging and discharging of batteries.
 Smart Energy Management: Can prioritize solar, grid, or battery power based on demand, time of day, or cost.
 Seamless Switching: Automatically switches between grid and battery without interruption.

SOLAR PUMP SET WITH MPPT CHARGE CONTROLLER:

The system consists of four components: PV cell, drive , motor and pump. The built-in power point tracking functionality enables the pump to run at a maximum power using solar power. It is independent of the grid and produces no pollution or noise.

The solar pump inverter is an AC drive of 5 HP, designed to operate with energy drawn from photovoltaic cells (PVs). A DSP-based control tracks and extracts maximum power from m the solar panel so that motor runs with the intensity of sunlight throughout the day.
